Midterms are upon us, Spring break is close, the dreaded wait has officially begun. For some of us, the wait is almost over, while others have a little while longer to go. The final week of classes until Spring Break has got me antsy, but its almost over! I am very excited to visit LA and blog about it in the coming weeks. This week is nothing but patience and getting on with classes. The stress of Senior project is getting stronger but progress is being made. I feel a bit more happier knowing I am making progress however, there still is a lot that needs to be done. Once Spring break is over, we're in the final stretch.
My weekend was basically prepping a portfolio website together and working on Senior project. I never really explained what my project was so I'll give a brief description!
Saturday & Sunday
My Senior graphic design class were challenged in creating our own briefs which will eventually be showcased this May at The Prairie Center of the Arts as well as in The Heuser Art Center. We are given a chance to design and rebrand anything we've always wanted to create or work with. I chose to design and create a mock up for a monthly subscription box for Nintendo. This will be centered around the idea of the classic/iconic characters in the 1980s because I feel like younger generations today have basic knowledge of these iconic games and consoles, however, they need to understand how this time period was really a break through for video games especially Nintendo. Even though these characters are still around today, I think it would be really cool to design something retro. Not only would this be for younger audiences, but it can even be targeted for older generations as well. They grew up with these consoles and characters so it can also be purchased for nostalgic purposes. All I have is sketches and mock up logos right now but in the coming weeks, it should be a full on project ready to be presented. I'll end up showing progress as it's closer to being finished.
Monday - Wednesday
Last Monday, my ResLife staff and I began playing assassins. This is meant for staff bonding purposes but I highly question that. IMO this game destroys friendships and causes paranoia. Currently, I am still alive and there are 9 out of 17 staffers remaining. For those of you that don't know what this game is, it's basically a live strategic survival game. The goal of the game is to kill an assigned target with a kill weapon (which is a plastic spoon for us). It can last anywhere between days or weeks. As more time passes by, more pressure is added to the surviving players and we may have to carry around something more embarrassing than spoons, like underwear. I am not competitive or anything, but I've been alive long enough so I feel obligated to play (Or win). Once I win or die, I will update y'all on that. It's going to feel odd not carrying a spoon in hand everywhere I go. Also I just realized I don't have my spoon on me as I finish this blog...gotta run! Have a wonderful Spring Break everyone!
At this point senior project stress is my best friend. I sort of wish I'd thought of Nintendo, that sounds like it'll be a fun project at least. I hope for your sake though that no one tries to assassinate you with a spoon until after spring break, good luck!
